This is a blog that has been assigned to my Ap English class. This blog will include details and research materials on a insect that looks like a leaf. This insect is a Katydid. I caught and sealed it in a container inside my home. Also, this blog will include what a Katydid eats, the way its reproductive system works, and its daily life in a clear rectangle with a green roof.

The Hatching Process
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Aowx2hXVNeM I wanted to show you guys what a Katydid looks like as it is being hatched. With this link you should be able to watch the way the Katydid comes out, squeezing it's soft delicate body through the hard shell. As it wiggles and squirms out. Once the body is fully out it is able to open and extend it's legs out of the cramped space, making it look bigger than it does without it's legs.

Whoa! That's the most disgusting and coolest thing I've seen. Katydids when they're first born look so similar to grasshoppers and with all the legs coming out it reminded me of a green spider. Awesome bug to observe by the way.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you actually caught one of these! What makes it even better is that your katydid actually laid eggs, I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeleteI think this is so cool but so gross! Where did you find this creature? How can you tell the difference of it being a leaf and a Katydid?
ReplyDeleteI still don't know if I'd want it in my house. It sort of makes me itch.
ReplyDeleteWoaaaaah and ewww! Kinda wish I didnt watch that nor want to have that in my house. Let alone catching it! Props to you for this. But this was really interesting and gross to watch! Can't wait to see what else you have to post about this insect .
