Pic 1: Day 2 of death.
Pic 2: Day 3 of death.
As you can tell by day 3 of her death, she has started to decompose and also started to turn black in her torso area. I noticed she didn't have a smell to her, like most dead animals, insects, etc. would. It was kind of interesting how she didn't stink, and I expected her to. But my theory of her stinking was wrong and she had no odor.
That is so fascinating, they way she so quickly decomposes. I wonder if the eggs she laid are still going to hatch or if they somehow can sense that the mother is dead. Do katydids typically care for their young when they first hatch anyways?
ReplyDeleteEven though your insect has died there is still so much more you can discover. What caused Katys death? When a mother lays eggs,is she more suseptible to death? Do the eggs need a mothers nurturing? I always thought that after birth from any insect the mother would become weaker.
