New Blog

Due to the death of Katy, I have had to change my nature project to something else. I have chosen to do the project on my cat, Mila. Please follow my new blog @ Siberian-forestcat.blogspot.com Thank you for reading and commenting on my old project, and I hope you all do the same on this project.

Pictures after Death

Here are more pictures over the course of her death.
Pic 1: Day 2 of death.

Pic 2: Day 3 of death.

As you can tell by day 3 of her death, she has started to decompose and also started to turn black in her torso area. I noticed she didn't have a smell to her, like most dead animals, insects, etc. would. It was kind of interesting how she didn't stink, and I expected her to. But my theory of her stinking was wrong and she had no odor.

Death

Katy died last Tuesday. It was a sad and tragic death, yet she died dramatically. R.I.P (Rest In Peace) Katy the Katydid. September 10th, 2014 - October 7th, 2014. (The day I caught her - the day Katy died)

The Hatching Process

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Aowx2hXVNeM I wanted to show you guys what a Katydid looks like as it is being hatched. With this link you should be able to watch the way the Katydid comes out, squeezing it's soft delicate body through the hard shell.  As it wiggles and squirms out. Once the body is fully out it is able to open and extend it's legs out of the cramped space, making it look bigger than it does without it's legs.

Drawn Picture By: Joseph Santos Field Notes 9/16
This is one of the first drawings I've made of the creature called Katydid, before she had laid eggs across the branch placed in her cage. A good description of this insect would be from my field notes, "It has six legs. The hind legs are its largest, and goes medium in the middle, and smallest in the front. On its small head it has two antennas. It also has the body shape of a leaf, and under that leaf shape she has a torso of a bean."
